Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main purpose of the plans and give a useful overview that the centre will change substantially while some features remain. You also report several key additions, including the leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios, café and sports shop. However, some positions and relationships are inaccurate or unclear: the sports hall is described as being “at the gym,” although it is east of the seating, and the dance studios are placed only at the north-east corner rather than along the eastern side. The future layout’s extended gym and added changing rooms are also omitted. Develop the comparison more precisely by stating what stays in its original position and locating each new facility accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the current plan and a final paragraph about redevelopment. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the overview, where several features are joined in one long sentence. Phrases such as “After the proposed, redevelopment” and “If we go through the entrance” do not create clear links between the two plans, and “on our sides” leaves the locations uncertain. Group information by area or by what remains and what changes, and use clear references such as “on the western side” and “in the south-east corner” to make the comparisons easier to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing plans, including “redevelopment,” “entrance,” “outdoor courts,” “leisure pool” and “dance studios.” This gives you enough language to communicate the general changes. However, some wording is imprecise or repetitive: “new places” is vague, “at the gym” misrepresents the sports hall’s location, and “on our sides” is not a suitable way to describe the facilities beside the entrance. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “univerisity” and “redevolpment,” which reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of location and change vocabulary, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “is replaced by” for a facility change and “to the east of” for a clear spatial relationship.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation. Examples include “sports center have a reception,” “some remains the same,” and “a 25, meter pool”; these should use correct subject–verb agreement and a properly formed measurement phrase. Several sentences also lack a clear grammatical connection, as in “There is also a gym which at the top north side.” Commas are often attached incorrectly to words or placed inside phrases, such as “Overall, sports center” and “In the place, of.” Practise accurate basic clauses first, then combine them with controlled relative clauses and comparison structures.
