Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

the university is planning to renovate the sports center.

the plans illustrates both present and future layouts of the university's sports center, the upper one is the present layout and the bottom one future redevelopment plan.

The entrance to the sports center is from south of the building, while the 25m pool, seating, changing room, reception and entrance staying the same, the outdoor courts are not.

presently they are outside of the main sports center but they are completely being renovated, the west outdoor court is converting into a new Leisure Pool which is integrated into main building making into indoor.

The other outdoor court which is in the west also will be added into the main building making it into a new indoor Sports hall.

Not only renovation, there many additional rooms/halls are being added for various uses.

A new cafe and sports shop are being added south-east to the and south west of reception, respectively.

changing rooms are planned to be both south edge corners of the building, one facing directly to the leisure pool and the other accessible from a corridor which has 2 new dance studios in the east and to the new Gym which will be much larger than the present one.

The whole University sports center will be a indoor in future without any outdoor facilities as they are present plan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the redevelopment plan, such as the conversion of outdoor courts into indoor facilities and the addition of new amenities like the cafe and dance studios. You provided a clear overview of the changes. However, the response lacks a degree of precision in describing the spatial relationships. For instance, you mention the 'west outdoor court' and then later refer to 'the other outdoor court which is in the west', which is confusing as the diagram shows them in different locations. To reach a higher band, ensure your descriptions of location are accurate and consistent with the visual data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of changes. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'not only... but also' and 'while', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical transitions. For example, the opening sentence is a fragment, and the transition between the description of the pool and the outdoor courts is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renovate', 'redevelopment', 'integrated', and 'amenities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'making into indoor' instead of 'enclosing it' or 'converting it into an indoor facility'. Additionally, there are some minor errors in phrasing, such as 'south edge corners'. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing architectural changes and ensure that your collocations sound natural in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the plans illustrates'), missing articles ('a indoor'), and awkward sentence construction ('making into indoor'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
