Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by describing the current and future layout of the sports centre. However, the overview is somewhat disjointed, and the description of the changes lacks precision. For instance, stating that the '25m pool, reception and seating will remain same' is inaccurate, as the plans show these areas are significantly modified or relocated. The report identifies main features but fails to clearly contrast the 'before' and 'after' states in a way that highlights the key developments effectively. To improve, ensure that the overview captures the most significant changes (e.g., the expansion of facilities) rather than listing individual items, and verify the accuracy of the details against the visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'In present moment' and 'In future plans' are used to transition between sections, but the internal flow within paragraphs is weak. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sentence 'prominent will show', which lacks a clear subject. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to describe the basic features of the sports centre, but it is repetitive and lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'delineate' used incorrectly in the introduction and 'prominent will show' which is grammatically and lexically unclear. The range of vocabulary is limited to basic nouns related to the building. To improve, incorporate more descriptive verbs and adjectives related to urban planning and spatial changes, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'converted', and focus on using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('on the east side', 'on the west side'), incorrect verb forms ('after rebuilt' instead of 'after rebuilding'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('Two dance studio will be built'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and pluralisation. Proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
