Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main features of the sports centre redevelopment. You have provided a clear overview and highlighted the key changes, such as the replacement of outdoor courts with a leisure pool and the expansion of the gym. However, the report lacks precision in describing the spatial layout. For instance, referring to '7 compartments' and '13 compartments' is vague and not supported by the visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that you use specific terminology for the facilities provided in the prompt and maintain a more analytical tone when describing the spatial shifts between the two diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the current state to the future layout. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Currently' and 'In the future' to signal the transition between time frames. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the list of new additions in the final paragraph feels like a simple enumeration rather than a cohesive description. Improving the use of linking words and referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'this area') would enhance the overall flow and cohesion of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'redevelopment', 'renovations', and 'extended'. However, there are several spelling errors ('completly', 'facilty', 'buildind', 'replced', 'sudios') and minor word-choice issues ('compartment' is not the most natural term for rooms or zones in a sports centre). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to architectural layouts and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical slips, such as 'The 2 plans illustrate the university's sports centre current lay out' (missing possessive 's or noun phrase structure) and 'one will be next to outdoor pool' (missing article 'the'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the double space after 'Overall'. To improve, focus on article usage and subject-verb agreement. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice to describe the changes, would also strengthen your score.
