Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the redevelopment plan, identifying key changes such as the leisure pool, dance studio, and the extension of the gym. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate; the text describes a 'massive transformation from a largely sports center into a modern commercial hub,' which is not fully supported by the visual evidence, as the facility remains a sports center. Additionally, some descriptions are vague, such as 'vacant land in southeast will cover into new developments,' which fails to specify what those developments are. While the main features are reported, the analysis lacks the precision required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific areas of the sports center. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the western section,' 'To the east,' and 'Turning to the southern and northern areas,' which help guide the reader through the map. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. While the logical progression is clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly forced, preventing a more natural flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of incorrect word choice and word formation. For example, 'mapss' (spelling), 'transportation' instead of 'transformation,' 'demo listed' instead of 'demolished,' and 'construct' used as a noun instead of 'construction.' These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'redevelopment' and 'complexes,' the lack of precision and frequent errors in word forms limit the score. A wider range of precise, accurately used vocabulary is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('outdoor courts is demo listed'), incorrect passive voice construction ('will added' instead of 'will be added'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with random capitalization of words like 'Although' and 'Center.' While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of grammatical slips and awkward phrasing makes the text difficult to read at times. More attention to basic sentence construction and verb forms is necessary to improve accuracy.
