Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully identifies the main features of the sports centre's redevelopment. You have provided a clear overview and highlighted the key changes, such as the expansion of the building and the addition of new facilities like the leisure pool and sports hall. The comparison between the current and future layouts is effective. To reach a higher band, ensure that all spatial references are precise; for instance, describing the location of the new dance studios relative to the sports hall is good, but ensure the distinction between the 'west' and 'east' sides remains consistent throughout the description to avoid any potential confusion for the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized, moving from a general overview to specific details about the current layout and then the proposed changes. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate these sections. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At present', 'In future', and 'However' to guide the reader. To improve, try to vary your linking words further and ensure that referencing is always clear. For example, when mentioning 'the building' in the second paragraph, ensure the reader is clear that this refers to the main sports centre structure. Overall, the progression of information is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the layout and the changes, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'expanded', and 'facilities'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing. For instance, 'new things' is quite informal; using 'additions' or 'amenities' would be more appropriate for an academic task. Additionally, there are some minor errors in pluralization, such as 'two dance studio', which should be 'two dance studios'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to architectural changes would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'remain same' should be 'remain the same', and 'on the left side of pool' requires an article: 'on the left side of the pool'. There are also minor issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for small functional words like 'the', 'a', and 'an', and ensure that plural nouns are correctly matched with their verbs. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the score.
