Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the sports centre redevelopment. However, the description is somewhat inaccurate; for example, the student claims the pool remains similar, whereas the plans show the original pool is replaced by outdoor courts and a new leisure pool is constructed. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. While the main features are covered, the lack of precision in reporting the changes (e.g., confusing the location of the new dance studio and the sports shop) limits the effectiveness of the response. To improve, ensure that the data is interpreted accurately and that comparisons between the 'now' and 'future' layouts are clearly articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'Fleeting a glance' and 'Moving ahead' are used, but they do not always connect the ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks cohesion, as sentences often feel like a list of observations rather than a coherent summary of the layout changes. Improved use of cohesive devices and better sentence-to-sentence linking would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'built', 'remain', and 'setup'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'layout looks after the redevelopment' and 'northern east side'. The student attempts to describe the layout, but the lack of precise terminology for spatial relationships (e.g., 'in the north-east corner' instead of 'northern east side') makes the description less professional. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more varied vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', 'expanded', or 'demolished'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('many building will destroyed', 'gym expand their area', 'new dance studio will built'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing and capitalization. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that passive voice structures are used accurately when describing the redevelopment.
