Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, identifying key changes such as the expansion of the gym and the conversion of outdoor courts. However, the description is occasionally inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that the changing rooms remain the same, when the map shows them being relocated or expanded. The overview is somewhat weak, as it lacks a clear summary of the most significant transformations. While the response addresses the task, the lack of precision in reporting the spatial changes prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that the information extracted from the visual data is factually accurate and clearly contrasted.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'On other hand on south est side'. There are issues with referencing; for example, the term 'the west side' is used repeatedly without clear logical flow between the sentences. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, making it difficult to follow the spatial changes in a logical sequence. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'innovation' (when referring to a building layout), 'seen less', and 'increased more'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'est' instead of 'east'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors rather than more precise terms related to architectural changes or spatial planning. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to maps and trends, and ensure that words are used in their correct context to convey meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'how it look'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the changing room which is seeing in the west side'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would be beneficial.
