Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student identifies the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, the description is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence ('by rel'). Because the response is unfinished, it fails to provide a full overview or a comprehensive comparison of all features. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and the response is of sufficient length to allow for a full development of the information presented in the diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'however', and 'While', but the mechanical nature of the writing and the sudden termination of the final sentence disrupt the flow. To improve, focus on creating a more logical flow between sentences and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed before moving on to the next. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the lack of completion makes the overall structure feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'sports center' and 'remain unchanged' are used multiple times. There is an attempt to use descriptive language, but the range is limited. To reach a higher band, incorporate more varied vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'extended', or 'renovated'. Additionally, ensure that terminology is used accurately; for example, 'northern western side' is slightly awkward and could be phrased more naturally as 'north-west'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, 'design of sports center in university' lacks necessary articles, and 'at the right and left side' should be 'on the right and left sides'. There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
