Student answer (Band 5.5)
The layout below illustrate the present layout of university sports centre and how it will look after the redevelopment.
Overall, the future layout will include more diversity of activity and purpose. The present layout will turn into a giant centre having everything under one roof.
The outdoor courts will all be transformed into one main centre and will include variety of activity and shop, such as, new sports hall, dance studios, café, leisure pool, and a sports shop. The gym will be extended and 2 new changing rooms will be added to the south west and south east corners.
Navigating through the place will be much more easier for the students inside the centre with everything being under one centre.
In conclusion, the redevelopment of the university sports centre will offer students more activities and purposes. Navigating through the centre will also be easier as everything is under one roof.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by describing the present and future layouts. However, the analysis is quite superficial. While you mention the addition of a leisure pool and café, you fail to provide specific details about the spatial changes, such as the removal of the outdoor courts or the specific relocation of the reception area. The description relies on generalisations rather than a precise reporting of the visual data. To improve, you should focus on comparing the specific locations of facilities before and after the change, rather than just listing the new additions. The overview is present but lacks the necessary detail to fully capture the extent of the redevelopment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, body, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates points already made in the body. Cohesive devices are used, but they are somewhat basic (e.g., 'In conclusion', 'Overall'). The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show contrast or addition more effectively. The structure is functional but lacks the sophisticated cohesion required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision needed for a higher score. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'layout' and 'centre' multiple times. Phrases like 'more diversity of activity' and 'everything under one roof' are acceptable but somewhat informal. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to architectural changes, such as 'converted', 'relocated', 'integrated', or 'expanded'. There are no significant spelling errors, but the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday terms rather than specific descriptive language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing, such as subject-verb agreement ('The layout below illustrate') and article usage ('a variety of activity' should be 'a variety of activities'). Additionally, 'much more easier' is a double comparative error; it should simply be 'much easier'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and comparative adjective forms.
