Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adopt an objective, academic tone required for Task 1. Instead of providing a neutral summary of the changes, the writer includes subjective opinions such as 'that’s good' and 'that’s a bad thing'. Furthermore, the response lacks a clear overview or a structured comparison of the two plans. While the main features are mentioned, the lack of formal reporting style and the inclusion of irrelevant personal commentary (e.g., 'when students get bored') significantly detract from the task requirements. To improve, focus on describing the physical changes—such as the expansion of the building and the replacement of outdoor courts—without offering personal judgment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is written as a single, long paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of logical progression or paragraphing to separate the current layout from the proposed changes. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'also' and 'not only that but also'. The flow is disjointed, and the lack of punctuation makes it challenging for the reader to identify where one idea ends and the next begins. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks and a wider range of linking words to connect ideas logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple verbs like 'make' and 'add'. There are numerous spelling errors, such as 'univecity', 'activityies', 'willl', 'anf', 'lesiure', and 'socialieze'. The word choice is informal and lacks the precision needed for an academic report. For example, using 'newbie' is inappropriate for this task. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to maps and diagrams, such as 'relocated', 'extended', 'converted', and 'demolished', and ensure you proofread for basic spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There is a lack of sentence boundaries, with many run-on sentences and a complete absence of full stops or commas. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, such as 'lesiure pool will built' (passive voice error) and 'students who plays' (should be 'play'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, poorly constructed sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, including the use of capital letters and terminal punctuation, and practice the correct formation of passive voice for describing changes.
