Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, such as the gym expansion, the addition of dance studios, and the new cafe. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention 'five different changes,' the specific details are occasionally confusing or inaccurate (e.g., stating the sports hall will be constructed when it is already present in the 'now' plan). To reach a higher band, ensure that your summary accurately reflects the visual data and provides a more cohesive comparison between the two timeframes rather than simply listing features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Phrases like 'To begin with, first of all' are redundant and mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the centre. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next, rather than relying on a list-like format.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'build,' 'construct,' and 'open.' There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'educational institution sports centre' instead of 'university sports centre' and 'lock' instead of 'look.' While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for change and development, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Gym area will be extend'), passive voice construction (e.g., 'it will made'), and article usage. The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting more complex forms. To improve, focus on mastering the passive voice for describing changes, as this is essential for Task 1, and pay closer attention to verb tenses and auxiliary verbs to ensure your sentences are grammatically sound.
