Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, including the expansion of the gym and the addition of new facilities like the leisure pool and dance studios. However, the description of the layout is somewhat confusing and lacks precision. For instance, stating 'outdoor courts on both sides... will changes into several other parts' is vague. While the main features are identified, the comparison between the 'now' and 'future' states could be more clearly structured to highlight the specific transformations. The overview is present but could be more analytical regarding the overall shift in the centre's function.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the current state to the future layout. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'On eastern side', 'On western side'). The transition between the general overview and the specific details is abrupt. Some sentences lack clear logical flow, such as the list of facilities in the third paragraph, which feels like a disjointed inventory rather than a coherent description of spatial changes. Improved use of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the facilities (e.g., 'reception', 'leisure pool', 'dance studio'). However, there is a lack of variety and precision. The writer relies on basic verbs like 'added' and 'remains' repeatedly. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'The two maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'on the other side of reception' (which is slightly imprecise). To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to spatial changes and development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The two maps illustrates', 'how it look'), missing articles ('There is outdoor courts', 'Cafe also added'), and tense inconsistencies ('will changes'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. A greater focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
