Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, including the addition of new facilities like the cafe, shop, and dance studios, as well as the conversion of the outdoor courts. However, the overview is missing; a summary of the most significant changes (such as the expansion of the facility and the addition of new amenities) is essential for a higher band. The description of the layout is generally accurate, but some details are slightly confusing, such as the mention of fences, which is not clearly depicted in the provided plans. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary paragraph that highlights the overall transformation of the site.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moreover'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from general changes to specific additions. However, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing locations (e.g., 'on both side of the entrance southwest and southeast'). Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes effectively. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'amenities' and 'redevelopment'. However, there are several word choice errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'the whole institution sports Center is covered by fences' and 'help sportsperson’s for changing their clothes'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the description. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for spatial description would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the given plans illustrates', 'the university have planning') and article usage ('on west side', 'on northeast side'). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lack of spaces after periods and the inconsistent use of apostrophes ('sportsperson’s'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
