Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given two plans illustrate how the sports centre of a university would be after its renovation.
To begin with, the layout currently consists of one main hall centered around two parallel outdoor courts. In addition, the main hall covers a standard amount of facilities, which include a gym placed in the north, reception present at the very entrance point and a seating area in the right, a changing room provided at the west side. Moreover, there is a swimming pool located right at the centre which is about 25 meters wide.

These include a new leisure pool at the west side and two more changing rooms .However ,the east side is to be replaced by two dancing studios at the extreme right .Furthermore, the seating area is planned to be attached with a separate sports hall right beside it .Not to forget ,there will be a cafe and a sports shop right in the entrance part. Overall ,to conclude, it can be inferred that the plans related to development of the university's sports centre is quite significant with outdoor courts totally replaced by new facilities like leisure pool, dance studios and more space for changing rooms.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the two plans, including the current layout and the proposed redevelopment. You have successfully identified the main changes, such as the removal of outdoor courts and the addition of new facilities like the leisure pool and dance studios. However, the overview could be more analytical; rather than just listing changes, try to highlight the most significant transformation, such as the shift from outdoor space to indoor recreational facilities. The description of the current layout is clear, but ensure that comparisons between the 'now' and 'future' states are more explicit throughout the body paragraphs to better meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping features more thematically rather than just listing them by location. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences in the second body paragraph could be smoother to avoid a list-like feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'layout', and 'facilities' appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'covers a standard amount of facilities' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'attached with' (should be 'attached to'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to spatial description, such as 'situated in the northern wing' or 'the area is designated for'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the plans related to development... is' (subject-verb agreement error, should be 'are') and 'remain same' (should be 'remain the same'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues around commas and periods (e.g., 'However ,the'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
