Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 73 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have attempted to identify some main features, such as the addition of a leisure pool and cafe, the analysis is severely underdeveloped and incomplete. You have not provided a comprehensive summary of the changes, and the abrupt ending suggests a lack of planning. To improve, you must ensure you cover all significant changes shown in the diagrams and provide a more detailed comparison between the two layouts to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a full understanding of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear structure due to its brevity. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of paragraphing and the incomplete nature of the final sentence hinder the logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Therefore' are used, but they are not sufficient to create a coherent flow given the fragmented nature of the text. To improve, you should organize your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific changes, using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'building' and 'space' throughout the text. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'reconstruction' and 'leisure pool', but the range is too limited to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. Furthermore, there are errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'significant place as sports shop'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to describing maps and layouts, such as 'transformed', 'extended', 'relocated', and 'converted', and ensure your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, 'The plan illustrate' should be 'The plan illustrates', and 'present building only have' should be 'present building only has'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with missing spaces after commas. The grammatical control is weak, and the errors are frequent relative to the short length of the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and practice constructing more complex sentences using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
