The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The map illustrates the layout of a university sports centre and the proposed changes to its facilitieys.

Overall, the sports centre is set to undergo redevelopment, with the outdoor courts replaced by a large leisure pool, while amenities, including a sports hall, cafe and changing rooms, will be introduced. The existing gym and 25-meter pool, however, will remain.

At present, the centre consists of a gym at the northern end, with a 25-meter pool below it Changing rooms are located on either side of the pool, while a reception area occupies the southern section. Outdoor courts are situated to the east and west of the main building.

Under the future plan, the western courts will be replaced by a leisure pool. The gym and pool will be retained, but a sports hall will be added to the east. Furthermore, new changing rooms and a cafe will be constructed along the southern side, while facilities will occupy the eastern edge.
