Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the redevelopment plan, identifying the changes and the areas that remain the same. However, the description of the changes is occasionally confusing, such as the statement that the outdoor courts will be replaced by a leisure pool and a sports hall, which is accurate, but the phrasing 'other court will be taken the place of sports hall' is awkward. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. To improve, ensure that the comparison between the 'now' and 'future' layouts is more precise and clearly structured to help the reader follow the transformation of the space.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'Surprizingly' (which is not appropriate for a factual report) and 'meanwhile, other court will be taken the place of'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which specific area of the sports centre is being discussed. Improving the flow between sentences and using more natural linking phrases would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of unnatural phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'blueprint of a university's sports centre' and 'two dance studio join together'. The spelling error 'Surprizingly' also detracts from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. While the student attempts to use specific terminology related to the sports centre, the lack of precision in collocation limits the score. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise verbs and descriptive adjectives would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'in future plan of university's sport centre have been completely changed' (subject-verb agreement and article usage) and 'Seating and reception will be remained same' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms is essential.
