The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The provided diagrams compare the present layout of a university's sports centre with its future plans after redevelopment.

Overall, the sports centre will undergo significant changes with the addition of modern facilities and amenities. The major changes include a leisure pool, a café, a sports shop, two dance studios and a sports hall, while the outdoor courts will be removed.

The present sports centre has a relatively simple layout, with two outdoor courts, one on the west and the other on the east of the central building. The entrance is located on the southern side, leading to a reception area. Just above it, a 25-metre pool is situated in the centre, surrounded by a gym to the north, seating to the east and a changing room to the west.

However, the future plan is more extensive. The total area of the centre is planned to expand by incorporating the areas currently occupied by the outdoor courts. In the northeast part, two dance studios are going to be built. Below these, a changing room will be added, along with a café on the left. The gym, pool, reception and seating areas will remain in their current positions, while a sports hall will be constructed to the east of the seating area. In the northwest corner, a large leisure pool will be constructed. Moreover, a sports shop will be added in the southwest section, next to a changing room.
