Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the sports centre layout effectively. You have successfully identified the key changes, such as the removal of the outdoor courts and the addition of new facilities like the leisure pool and dance studios. The overview provides a clear summary of the redevelopment. However, the description of the future layout is slightly incomplete; for instance, the sentence 'The existing 25 metre pool seating area in the current position' is grammatically fragmented and fails to clearly state whether these features remain or are altered. To reach a higher band, ensure all comparisons are fully articulated and that the description of the future state is as precise as the current state.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the current layout from the future plans. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition' and 'According to the future plans', which help the flow. However, the transition between ideas could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and there is a lack of varied cohesive devices to link the comparison of the two maps more fluidly. Improving the use of referencing and linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'modernised', and 'constructed' appropriately. The language is generally clear and conveys the intended meaning without difficulty. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items related to spatial descriptions. For example, instead of repeating 'side of the building', you could use 'situated on the northern periphery' or 'adjacent to the main entrance'. While the current vocabulary is sufficient, it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical lapses. For example, the sentence 'The existing 25 metre pool seating area in the current position' lacks a main verb, making it a fragment. Additionally, there are missing commas in several places, such as after introductory phrases like 'At present' and 'In addition'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a greater variety of error-free complex structures to demonstrate higher grammatical control.
