IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagrams depict the layout of a university sports centre before and after its planned redevelopment. Overall, the university sports centre has greatly expanded its facilities with the addition of new changing rooms, sports shop, cafe, sports hall and dance studio.

Presently, the main building of the university sports centre has a 25m pool at its centre. Surrounding the pool from all 4 sides is the changing room to the west, gym to the north, seating to the south and reception to the south. In addition, outside the main building the outdoor courts are stationed at both the eastern and western ends.

The future map planned for the university sports centre has expanded the main buildings to include the outdoor courts. The outdoor court to the right of the seating will be remodeled into a sports hall. Next to it a dance studio will be constructed and right below the sports hall and dance studio, a cafe and a changing room are planned. Similarly, the western outdoor court will be reconstructed into a large leisure pool and directly below it a changing room and sports shop will be erected. The gym north of the 25mm pool will be greatly expanded.
