Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pictured sketch displays the structure of the university's sports centre before and after renovation which will be concluded in the forthcoming.
Overall, the region is expanded by replacing the two outdoor courts with different areas for innovative operations and retail centres.
At present, as we access main access point we find a reception. The sports centre has a 25 metre long pool at the core enclosed by a Gym to the north, seating and changing room by the right and left respectively. Outside this zone, there exist two outdoor courts on either sides.
On the other hand, the future version consist of a massive extended hall with various modifications. The Gym is expanded into a longer area and a sports hall just beneath it. To the right of the gateway there is a cafe established and a sports outlet facing to it. There are two changing rooms on the both corners of the venue at the bottom. The outdoor courts is substituted by leisure pool on the west and dance studios on the east.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the sports centre redevelopment. You provided a clear overview and compared the current layout with the future plans. However, some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing; for example, you mention a 'sports hall just beneath' the gym, which is not clearly supported by the visual data, and the description of the changing rooms as being at the 'bottom' is vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that spatial descriptions are precise and that all key changes, such as the addition of the leisure pool and dance studios, are described with absolute clarity regarding their new locations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs covering the 'before' and 'after' states. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At present' and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs could be improved. For instance, the transition between the reception and the pool area is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'facing to it' or 'on the both corners'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopment', 'substituted', and 'modifications'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'pictured sketch' (which is slightly unnatural; 'provided plans' or 'diagrams' would be better) and 'innovative operations' (which is vague). You also have some minor errors in phrasing, such as 'concluded in the forthcoming' (which is grammatically incomplete). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing architectural changes and ensure that collocations are natural and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. Examples include 'the future version consist' (subject-verb agreement error), 'on the both corners' (incorrect article usage), and 'outdoor courts is substituted' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, 'as we access main access point' is missing an article. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
