Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all key features of the sports centre plans, including the areas that remain unchanged and those that are redeveloped. You have successfully identified the main changes, such as the addition of the leisure pool and the conversion of outdoor courts. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise comparisons between the two layouts. For instance, while you mention the gym is extended, specifying the direction or scale of this change would add depth. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant transformations, which is essential for a high band score. Overall, you have addressed the prompt effectively by summarizing the information and reporting the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by location. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Following this', and 'In addition' to guide the reader through the description. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with flow between sentences. To reach a higher band, ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally to connect ideas rather than just acting as signposts at the start of sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'alterations', and 'leisure pool'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'would replaced' (should be 'would be replaced') and 'would modified' (should be 'would be modified'). Additionally, 'fresh cafe' is slightly unnatural in this context; 'new' or 'additional' would be more appropriate. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, there is a lack of more sophisticated or varied descriptive language that would be expected at a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with passive voice constructions and verb forms, such as 'would replaced', 'will built', and 'will build'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. While they do not impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of control over complex grammatical structures. To improve, focus on the correct formation of the passive voice (e.g., 'will be built') and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
