Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the sports centre redevelopment, identifying the current layout and the proposed changes. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, such as the expansion of the facility. The report focuses on listing individual items rather than synthesizing the information to highlight the overall transformation. To improve, you should include an introductory overview that captures the main trend (e.g., the expansion and addition of new amenities) and ensure that comparisons between the 'now' and 'future' states are more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into two paragraphs, which is appropriate for a report. However, the flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures, such as starting many sentences with 'there is' or 'they plan to'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect ideas more fluidly and improve the logical progression of the description.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is functional but basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple terms like 'make' and 'side'. There is a lack of precise vocabulary to describe spatial relationships or architectural changes. For instance, instead of 'make', you could use 'construct', 'install', or 'incorporate'. The spelling of 'an university' (should be 'a university') and the misuse of 'in entrance' indicate a need for more attention to collocations and articles. To reach a higher band, aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary related to maps and facility layouts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are consistent issues with article usage (e.g., 'in front of leisure pool'), subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency (e.g., switching between 'is' and 'was' when describing the current layout). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or compound, with very few complex sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with several comma splices and run-on sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent tense usage when describing static plans, and reducing the frequency of errors in basic grammar.
