IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The plan illustrates the current layout of a university sports centre and the proposed changes that will be made after its redevelopment.

Overall, the sports centre will become considerably larger, the two outdoor courts being replaced by a range of new facilities. However, the pool, gym, seating area and the reception will remain in their existing locations.

At present, the sports centre consists of a central building with outdoor courts on the Eastern and Western sides of the building. The central building consists of a 25m pool in the middle, seating area on the eastern side and changing rooms on the western side. The gym is located on the northern end of the building while the reception is situated on the southern entrance.

Following the redevelopment plan, the western outdoor court would be replaced by a leisure pool with a changing rooms and a sports shop to its south. The eastern outdoor court would be changed into a sports hall with 2 dance studios to its further east. Another changing room and cafe would be constructed on the south-eastern boundary. While the 25m pool, seating area, the pre-existing changing rooms and the reception would remain unchanged.
