The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given maps illustrate the current arrangement of a university's sports center, and the proposed changes that are planned for the future.

Overall, the area is planned to undergo significant development, with several new facilities being constructed and the existing infrastructure being expanded.

At present, the sports center contains a central 25m rectangular pool, seating area, a gym and reception area. Under the proposed plan, the gym will be enlarged and a large leisure pool will be constructed to the west of the existing swimming pool. In addition, two large consecutive dance studios of equal size will be added to the east.

Regarding the outdoor facilities, outdoor courts will be removed and replaced by a sports hall. Moreover, two large changing rooms will be built in south-eastern and south-western sides. Furthermore, near the entrance, a small cafe and a sports shop will be added to facilitate students. The boundaries of thg area will be more defined.
