Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of the cafe and sports club, and the expansion of the gym. However, the description is somewhat inaccurate; for example, the student states the pool remains unchanged, whereas the map shows a new leisure pool replacing the outdoor courts. Furthermore, the overview is vague and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the 'before' and 'after' states to avoid factual errors and provide a more precise summary of the overall transformation in the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. While some cohesive devices like 'To commence' and 'Furthermore' are used, they are often applied mechanically. The relationship between sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the second paragraph where the list of features lacks smooth transitions. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall progression of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'redesign the insfrasture' and 'look later it'. There is also a reliance on basic vocabulary. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'insfrasture') restrict the score. To improve, work on using more precise terminology related to maps and spatial descriptions, such as 'relocated', 'converted', 'extended', or 'demolished', and ensure you check your spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the two outdoor courts is witnessed') and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'in which can be leisure pool'). There is a limited range of complex structures, and the ones attempted are often inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Practice writing error-free simple sentences before attempting more complex structures to ensure clarity and accuracy.
