Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the transformation, such as the addition of the cafe, sports shop, and the conversion of outdoor courts. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. The description of the layout is somewhat confusing due to imprecise spatial references (e.g., 'left and right side of sport centre'). While the key changes are identified, the lack of a clear, cohesive summary and the presence of some inaccuracies in describing the spatial relationships prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the 'before' and 'after' states and provide a more structured overview of the overall development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks effective paragraphing, appearing as a single block of text, which hinders readability. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', the flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and run-on sentences. The logical progression is difficult to follow because the spatial descriptions are cluttered and lack clear signposting. To improve, use distinct paragraphs for the introduction, the overview, and the specific details. Ensure that each sentence connects logically to the next using a variety of linking words rather than relying on repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'left and right side' are used frequently, which makes the description monotonous. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'will be stayed same' instead of 'will remain the same' and 'will transformed in' instead of 'will be transformed into'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the grammatical errors in word usage limit the score. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and prepositions related to location and change would significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of information. There are issues with verb tenses (e.g., 'will be stayed same'), missing articles (e.g., 'in front of reception'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'There two dance studio will be added'). The range of structures is limited, and the control over complex sentences is weak. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing processes and changes in maps. Proofreading for basic punctuation and article usage would also be beneficial.
