Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the current and future university sports centre layouts, pointing out changes such as the addition of a leisure pool, dance studios, and a sports shop. However, the task achievement is heavily compromised by severe language errors that obscure key details. While the writer mentions several overall developments, comparisons are poorly articulated due to disjointed phrasing and missing references. For instance, statements such as "In now sports centre have less facilitie" fail to clearly contrast the before and after states. The description lacks clear organisation of data points, meaning that key features like the gym and outdoor courts are presented in a confused, fragmentary manner. Consequently, the response only partially addresses the prompt, earning a Band 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The coherence and cohesion of the essay are significantly hindered by erratic paragraphing, a lack of logical progression, and faulty cohesive devices. While the essay is divided into an introduction and body paragraphs, the sentences within these paragraphs do not follow a clear spatial or chronological sequence. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, as seen in awkward transitions like "Firstly now play ground looking small" and "Regaeding redevelopment". Pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader confused about which part of the map is being described (e.g., "below the this pool one changimg room"). Overall arrangement lacks a smooth flow, placing this text firmly at Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The lexical resource is basic and heavily restricted by frequent word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes. The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as "facilities", "redevelopment", "seating area", and "changing room", but these are frequently misspelled or grammatically mangled (e.g., "facilitie", "changimg", "fasilities", "Significxantly"). There is a heavy reliance on repetitive, simple phrasing ("sports center", "pool", "area"), and uncommon lexical items are rarely used with accuracy or appropriate collocation. The numerous lexical slips frequently strain the reader and obscure precise meaning, corresponding to a Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring a very limited range of sentence structures and pervasive errors. Simple sentences are constructed with fundamental errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as "The map illustrate" instead of "illustrates" and "In now sports centre have". Complex sentence attempts are virtually absent, and where structures are combined, they are heavily flawed and ungrammatical (e.g., "The gym ares carry large part of sport center"). Punctuation and word order are erratic, resulting in frequent breakdowns in communication that cause significant difficulty for the reader. This falls into the Band 4.0 category.
