Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response successfully covers all the main features of the maps, presenting an overview of the current layout and the proposed changes. You note key alterations such as the removal of the outdoor courts, the expansion of the boundary, and the introduction of new facilities like the sports hall, dance studios, leisure pool, sports shop, and cafe, while correctly identifying elements that remain unchanged, such as the 25m pool and reception. However, the report contains several spelling inaccuracies (e.g., 'expenssion', 'upgradtion', 'gum area') and some imprecise directional references. While you have summarized the main features and made relevant comparisons, the minor errors in reporting details place this comfortably within the Band 6.0 descriptor, as you address all parts of the task with relevant ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement and attempts a logical progression by comparing the current and future layouts. You use some cohesive devices such as 'while', 'and', and 'just below', although referencing is occasionally imprecise or repetitive (e.g., using 'there will be' repeatedly). Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, overall trend, and specific layout descriptions, although the paragraph breaks could be better structured to group related spatial features together logically. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, particularly in the final body paragraph, which corresponds well to the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes faulty and referencing is not always clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe physical features and spatial changes using terms like 'redevelopment plan', 'facilities', 'leisure pool', and 'reception'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'expenssion', 'upgradtion', 'demolish' (used as a past participle instead of demolished), 'boundry', 'faclities', 'gum' (gym), and 'oppostie'. These lexical errors and spelling mistakes reflect Band 5.0, as they are noticeable and sometimes cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader, even though the intended meaning remains mostly recoverable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses (e.g., 'that was in the west') and conditional future structures (e.g., 'is going to be totally demolish'). However, there are frequent grammatical inaccuracies and structural errors, such as passive voice formation ('is going to be totally demolish' instead of demolished, 'will also be remain' instead of remain), article misuse ('The both outdoor courts', 'the gym area'), and subject-verb agreement issues. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band, aligning it closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
