Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of the current university sports centre and comparing them with the proposed future layout. Key alterations, such as the replacement of outdoor courts with a leisure pool, the addition of a sports hall, dance studios, a café, and a sports shop, are clearly identified. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting the most significant transformations. The information is grounded accurately in the provided visual data, with correct spatial references such as north, south, west, and east. The response meets all requirements for Task Achievement, demonstrating a clear understanding of the diagram changes, earning a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression from the introduction to the overview, followed by the description of the present layout and finally the future plans. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct conceptual blocks of information. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, although there are minor issues with referencing and transition flows, such as repetitive sentence openings or slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'The current university sport centre possesed'. Nevertheless, paragraph transitions are generally effective, and the progression of information remains clear throughout the text, warranting a competent score for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing maps and plans, utilizing terms such as 'layout', 'redevelopment', 'incorporation', and 'expansion'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, including 'adittion', 'possed', 'redevelpoment', 'were originally was', and 'Adittionaly'. These inaccuracies slightly distract the reader, though they do not impede overall communication. The writer attempts less common lexical items related to architectural modifications, but lexical control is inconsistent. Addressing these minor spelling and collocation slips would elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and prepositional phrases to describe spatial relationships. Grammatical control is generally acceptable, and meaning is rarely obscured. However, several errors are present, particularly regarding verb tenses ('possed' instead of 'possesses' or 'featured', 'were originally was' instead of 'where originally there were') and spelling-adjacent grammatical lapses. Punctuation is generally sound, but sentence structures can occasionally feel formulaic. The frequency and nature of these errors place the response comfortably within the mid-range for grammatical accuracy.
