Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The student attempts to summarise the main changes between the present and future plans of the university sports centre, noting features such as the expansion of the gym, the retention of the pool and reception, and the conversion of the outdoor courts into a leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios, and a café. However, the response falls severely short of the word count requirement, containing only 98 words against the mandated 150-word minimum. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, as the development of ideas and comparison of features remain restricted and incomplete.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing, ending abruptly with a fragmented heading 'future plans'. The logical progression is difficult to follow due to run-on sentences and a lack of cohesive devices, with phrases connected loosely without appropriate transition markers. While the student attempts to contrast the present layout with future modifications, the overall organisation is mechanical and rudimentary, resulting in a disjointed structure that fails to guide the reader smoothly through the comparative information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying on general terms such as 'bigger in size', 'get covered', and 'take place'. There are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'leisure pool take place at west outside court' instead of 'replace the western outdoor courts'. While the student manages to name most of the architectural features shown on the plans, the limited range and lack of precise collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and flawed complex sentences. There are several punctuation and capitalisation errors, such as 'In size' and missing periods, alongside awkward phrasing like 'management is thinking for changes in sports centre'. Grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in verb tense consistency, prepositions, and articles that occasionally make communication difficult for the reader.
