The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The two maps illustrate the current layout of a university sports centre and the proposed changes for its future redevelopment.
Overall, the main building will expand significantly, replacing the outdoor courts with new indoor facilities. However, central features such as the 25m pool, gym, seating area, and reception will remain in their original positions.
In the current layout, the west side consists of outdoor courts. In the future plan, this area will be enclosed within the main building to house a large leisure pool. Additionally, a new changing room and a sports shop will be constructed in the southwestern corner, directly accessible from the main entrance area.
The outdoor courts on the east side will also be removed. In their place, a new sports hall will be built next to the seating area, along with two dance studios located along the eastern wall. Below the sports hall, a new café and an additional changing room will be added in the southeastern corner. Meanwhile, the central 25m pool, the gym to the north, the seating area to the east, and the main entrance and reception to the south will stay unchanged, though the gym itself will be widened.
