The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The two maps show the current layout of the university sports center and the proposed changes for its future redevelopment.

Overall, the main building will expand significantly, replacing the outdoor courts with the new indoor facilities. However, central features such as 25m pool, seating, reception and gym will remain in their original positions.

In the current layout, the western side consists of the outdoor courts. In future, this area will be enclosed within the main building to house a large leisure pool. Additionally, a new changing room and a sports shop will be constructed in the southwestern corner, which will also be accessible from the main entrance area.

The outdoor courts on the east side will also be removed. In their place, a new sports hall will be built next to the seating area, along with two dance studios located along the eastern wall. Below the sports hall, a new cafe and an additional changing room will be added in the southeastern corner. Meanwhile, the central 25m pool, the gym to the north, the seating to the east, the changing room to the west and reception to the south side will be remain unchanged, though the gym itself will be widened.
