IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The given maps illustrate the present layout of a single sports center of a university and also highlight its structural developments in the future.
Overall, the center will experience significant renovation in the future. New changing rooms will be added in each southern corner while various new activity areas will also be introduced. However, the central space will remain intact.
Today, the main entrance is at the south of the center which faces the reception desk towards north. The 25m pool is surrounded by a changing room and a seating area at the left and right respectively. While the gym is present adjacent to the north boundary of the sports complex. Moreover, two outdoor courts are located on the western and the eastern side of the sports center.
In future plans, the university sports center will face major infrastructural advancements. The outdoor courts will be replaced with a leisure pool on the west while the eastern section will be equipped with a sports hall and two dance studios adjacent to the wall. Whereas, two additional changing rooms will be introduced at each corner of the southern wall. Furthermore, new sections will also be included, the sports shop at the left hand of entrance and a cafe on the right hand. Although the central area of a sports complex will remain in its original form, Gym section will also be enhanced towards the north-east.
