The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The diagrams illustrate the current state and the future look post developments of the sports centre of a university.

Overall, it can be observed that a lot of new facilities are introduced as parts of the future plan, including the addition of dance studios, two new changing rooms, a cafe and a sports shop. The current outdoor courts are planned to be replaced with a sports hall at the eastern side and a leisure pool at the west. The 25m pool and the seating area beside that is kept as it is, along with its changing room. The designated area for the gym would also be increased further towards the east.

To begin with, the two outdoor courts in the current structure would make way for a new abstractly shaped leisure pool in the west, and a sports hall with a couple of dance studios in the east. Two new changing rooms would also be introduced within the sports complex, right at the south-east and south-west corners. Apart from these, a sports shop and a cafe would also be constructed, at both the sides of the entrance.

However, the 25m pool is kept intact, along with its changing room and the designated seating area. The gym would go through an expansion further towards the eastern side. The reception would also be kept as it is.
