Student answer (Band 5.0)
The image below isllustrate the layout of university's sports center before and after it was renovated. The map indicates each section for different activities.
Moreover, The whole structure was changed. New things like seating, cafe dance studio were added. It was changed in a very usefull way to use every space they had.
First of all, The sport center was combined with the 2 outdoor courts on west and east side. The west side was replaced with leisure pool although the chaging room was on the space spot but a new room was added in the south west of building. With a sports shop at its right.
If we discuss the changes in center. The pool, changing room, seating and reception remaind unchanged. Although the gym at the noth was extended. On the east side a cafe was added just at the right of reception. And a changing room was added east south cornor. And a sports hall on the east. And 2 dancing studio on the north east side of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to summarize the main features of the sports centre plans, noting the expansion over the former outdoor courts and the addition of new facilities such as the leisure pool, sports hall, cafe, and dance studios. However, the response falls short of a fully developed overview and contains several inaccuracies in spatial reporting. For instance, the student states that the changing room was on the 'space spot' and mislocates the changing rooms and dance studios on the east side. Furthermore, the attempt at an overview in the second paragraph ('The whole structure was changed') is overly simplistic and vague, missing the key structural continuity that the central pool, seating, and reception remain unchanged. Due to under-developed comparisons and inaccurate details, the score reflects Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into short paragraphs, attempting to group information by location and feature. However, the progression of ideas is disjointed and lacks overall cohesion. Transitional phrases like 'First of all' and 'If we discuss the changes in center' are mechanically applied and unnatural. Paragraphing is weak, with single-sentence paragraphs ('Moreover, The whole structure was changed...') that disrupt the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'east south cornor' and 'on the north east side of it', making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships. Cohesive devices are either over-used, misused, or inadequate. This level of organisation aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'changed', 'room', 'space', and 'side'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'isllustrate' instead of 'illustrate', 'usefull', 'chaging', 'noth', and 'cornor'. Less common lexical items are attempted but usually result in inaccurate collocations or inappropriate forms, such as 'dancing studio' instead of 'dance studio' and 'space spot'. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate the task, resulting in a Band 5.0 score for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in tense consistency, capitalization, and punctuation (e.g., lowercase starting letters mid-paragraph, unnecessary commas after introductory phrases like 'First of all,'). Grammatical errors frequently cause difficulty or distraction for the reader, such as 'The image below isllustrate' (subject-verb agreement and spelling), 'although the chaging room was on the space spot' (fragmented and confusing clause structure), and 'remaind unchanged' (spelling/tense). The proportion of error-free sentences is low, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor profile.
