IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The map illustrates the existing layout of a university sports centre and proposed changes for its redevelopment.

Overall, the sports centre will undergo significant expansions. The outdoor courts will be completely occupied and fully integrated into expanded indoor courts, adding several amenities including, leisure pool, sports hall, two dance studios, sports shop and a cafe.

At present, the central building contains a 25-meter pool flanked by a changing room to the west and a seating area at the east, a reception near the entrance to the south, and a gym running along the building at the north. On the either side of main building two outdoor courts lie.

In the future layout, the central pool area, seating, reception and changing room will remain intact. However, the building exterior will expand to encompass both current outdoor courts. To the west the outdoor court will be replaced by a leisure pool along with an extra changing room and sports shop near the entrance.

To the eastern side, the former outdoor courts will be replaced by a new sports hall, two dance studios near the eastern corner, and a changing room and a cafe at the southern corner of entrance. Furthermore, the gym at the north will be extended and stretch along the top of the entire building.
