The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The map diagram compares the layout of the sports centre of a university now and after refurbishment.
Overall, it can be seen that the building will undergo a significant redevelopment. The three sections of the building will be combined under one roof, with the introduction of new recreational facilities including a leisure pool, a cafe, a dance studio and new changing rooms.
At present, there is a main building at the centre, containing a 25m pool in the middle with seating and changing rooms on either side. The gym is located at the top of that building on the northern side. There is a large section of outdoor courts on both sides of the main building.
In the future, all three sections will be compressed under one roof, with a large space allocated for a leisure pool on the left side of the map. The facilities present in the centre of building will remain intact including the central pool, changing rooms, the seating, the reception and the gym. Meanwhile, there will be an addition of a sports hall adjacent to the seating and two dance studios on the eastern side. The two new changing rooms will be placed at the far corners of the entrance and there would be the introduction of a cafe on the right side and the sports shop on the left side of the entrance.
