IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the layout of a university’s sports centre now, and how it will look after redevelopment.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The illustrated layouts outline a university's sports center looks now and how will it look after renovation. It is evident from the ilustrations that while some outdoor activities will be lost, the redelevoped center will be significantly larger and will cater for a wider range of sports.
To begin with, currently the sports center consists of a central reception area at the south entrance, behind it is a 25 meter swimming pool. While changing area on the west and seating area on the east. The gym is located at the rear (northern section) of the main building with two large open air-courts situated on the immediate east and west sides of the complex.
Moving on, after renovations only the central 25 meter pool, adjacent changing rooms, seating areas and the core reception & layout remain unchanged. Apart from this notable changes are proposed to be made to the eastern and western wing. In the eastern wing, the outdoor court will be demolished and replaced by a large multi-purpose sports hall and two dedicated dance studios, alongside new changing facilities and a cafe positioned near the entrance. Similarly, in the western wing the outdoor court will be replaced by a new indoor leisure pool accompanied by it's own changing room. In addition, a new sports shop will also be added near the entrance area.
