Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by describing the present layout and future plans for the university sports centre, achieving the minimum word count of 178 words. However, the response falls short in several areas of Task Achievement. Some information is inaccurate or confusingly reported, such as stating that the sports hall will be rebuilt 'at the center' when it is actually placed to the east, and claiming that dance studios will be built on the 'west east part' rather than along the easternmost wall. While an overview is attempted at the beginning ('Overall the expansion at university will be visuable'), it is very basic. Many key features are under-developed or mislocated, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The organization of the response is quite rudimentary. The text is divided into a brief introduction and a few body paragraphs, but the paragraphing lacks clear logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive (e.g., relying heavily on basic linkers like 'firstly' and 'however'). Referencing is frequently unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage and vague directional markers like 'west east part' or 'west nort side'. There is no smooth flow between sentences or ideas, making the progression difficult to follow at times. These features align closely with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and inadequate for a strong academic response. The student relies on basic, repetitive vocabulary (e.g., 'sport center', 'changing room', 'reception', 'pool') and makes numerous spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'visuable', 'hudge', 'out side', 'Lesisure', 'nort'). There are also awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'items would introduced'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with frequent inaccuracy. Communication is occasionally strained due to these lexical shortcomings, which justifies a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency, such as 'There is map that described', 'there have some expansion plan', 'they will be introduce', and 'courts that located'. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with missing capital letters and erratic sentence boundaries. Because errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, the performance corresponds to Band 5.0.
