Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by outlining some of the main features of the sports centre's layout and its proposed future redevelopment. However, the information is presented in a somewhat limited way, and certain key features are missed or described with insufficient clarity. For example, while the student mentions the outdoor courts and the new leisure pool, the description lacks a fully developed overview and does not make all relevant comparisons between the present and future layouts, such as the exact relocation of certain facilities. The ideas remain basic and lack the extended development required for higher bands, placing this aspect of the writing firmly in the lower-middle range.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, moving from a description of the present layout to the future plans. However, there is no clear overall progression or effective paragraphing structure, as the text is clumped into two dense blocks with irregular formatting. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or are inaccurate, as seen in repetitive phrases like 'In present' and 'However, In future'. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships between the various rooms and areas described in the maps.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student relies on basic, repetitive terms such as 'room', 'building', and 'pool', alongside notable spelling and word-choice errors like 'ilustrate', 'entrence', 'midle', 'streach', and 'universit'. There are also awkward collocations and word forms, such as 'changing plan' instead of 'redevelopment plan' or 'two dance studios will constructing'. These lexical errors and limitations cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher rating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside flawed attempts at complex ones. Frequent errors are present in verb tenses, voice, articles, and punctuation. Examples include 'it is simple undeveloped building which have two outdoors', 'many new rooms will add in it', and 'two dance studios will constructing'. Additionally, basic punctuation rules are neglected, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences and after full stops, along with incorrect capitalization like 'SO There three'. These frequent grammatical inaccuracies often cause strain for the reader.
