Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While you attempt to describe the features of the university sports centre before and after redevelopment, the information presented is incomplete and contains several inaccuracies regarding the placement of facilities. For example, stating that 'the present condition of the sports complex is not well maintained' introduces irrelevant personal evaluation rather than objective reporting. Furthermore, key features such as the expansion of the gym and the addition of the sports hall and dance studios are described with limited clarity and development. To move to a higher band, you need to provide a fully developed overview that highlights all main trends and correctly locates all key features without missing major additions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in your writing, as you attempt to separate the present layout from the future plans, but there is no clear overall progression. The response lacks appropriate paragraphing, with the body of the text lumped into overly long, difficult-to-follow blocks, particularly the overly dense third paragraph that strings multiple clauses together with 'and'. Cohesive devices are repetitive and inadequate, relying heavily on basic connectors like 'and' rather than sophisticated logical transitions. To improve, ensure you group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of the two diagrams.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'redevelopment', 'complex', and 'rearrangement', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'counts' instead of 'courts', 'dancing studios' instead of 'dance studios', and 'changings' instead of 'changes'. Spelling errors like 'alot' also occur. These inaccuracies and limited lexical flexibility mean that the language falls short of higher bands. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate a wider variety of precise, topic-specific vocabulary and ensure correct word forms and spellings throughout your response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly run-on sentences lacking proper periods or commas, such as 'At present the sports complex has a 25m pool on the east side...'. Articles and prepositions are also frequently misused, as seen in phrases like 'on the bottom of the pool' instead of 'to the south of the pool'. To progress, you need to incorporate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with better control over punctuation, clauses, and grammatical accuracy to ensure your sentences do not cause difficulty for the reader.
