Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main features of the university's sports centre both presently and in its future layout, while making relevant comparisons. The overview captures the general transformation, though it uses subjective language like 'with all mouth-watering compulsory facilities' rather than purely reporting data. Most key changes are identified, such as the addition of the leisure pool, sports hall, and dance studios, alongside the features that remain unchanged. However, some areas lack full extension or clarity, such as the specific positioning of the new southern and eastern additions, pointing towards the characteristics of the band where certain parts are more fully developed than others while meeting the core requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from an introductory overview to specific spatial descriptions of the west, south, and north areas. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct sections of the plan. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, relying on basic or repetitive transitional markers such as 'In present design', 'Moreover in future plan', and 'In contrast'. Referencing between sentences occasionally lacks smoothness, which prevents the text from reaching a higher level of flow. Overall, the structural progression is clear enough to guide the reader through the comparative layouts without causing confusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use less common vocabulary items and subject-specific terms such as 'renovation', 'layout', and 'facilities', but these attempts are frequently undermined by word choice errors, awkward phrasing, and spelling mistakes (e.g., 'modren', 'limitted', 'toleisure'). Phrases like 'empty space will be constructed with' demonstrate unnatural collocation and imprecise vocabulary control. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted vocabulary range that requires greater precision, variety, and awareness of word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions mixed with basic complex forms. While there are some correct structures, frequent grammatical errors occur, particularly with prepositions ('in west side' instead of 'on the west side'), articles ('with the help of future plan'), and redundant phrasing ('converted into toleisure pool'). Verb tense usage for future projection is sometimes inconsistent. These errors require some effort to parse but rarely impede overall communication entirely, aligning with a profile where simple sentences are handled adequately while complex structures and grammatical accuracy show persistent weaknesses.
