Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response partially addresses the task by attempting to outline the main features of the current and future university sports centre plans. While the writer manages to identify several key modifications—such as the addition of the leisure pool, sports hall, and dance studio—the selection of information lacks clarity and focus. The overview is extremely brief and basic, stating only that there are several changes, which fails to adequately summarise the primary trends or overarching transformations shown in the diagrams. Furthermore, some details are vague or inaccurate, such as confusing the locations of added facilities like the café and sports shop. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide a clearer, more developed overview and ensure all major spatial changes are reported accurately and comprehensively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some organisation, dividing the response into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the present and future layouts. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently hindered by awkward referencing and mechanical cohesive devices, such as repeatedly using phrases like 'when we start with' and 'when we thinking about'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas within paragraphs feels disjointed rather than logically sequenced. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the various rooms and facilities. Improving logical transitions and ensuring clearer referencing between sentences would significantly enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and heavily repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'changes', 'pool', 'gym', and 'room'. There are frequent inappropriate word choices and non-standard collocations throughout the text, including phrases like 'after manufacture' instead of 'redevelopment' or 'renovation', and 'changing room for cloth chang'. Word formation errors are also present, such as 'Letsure pool totaly new devlop than past'. These noticeable lexical errors and the lack of a varied vocabulary restrict the range and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning. To improve, the writer should build a broader range of vocabulary specific to describing maps and spatial changes, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural faults when attempting more complex clauses. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, including missing or incorrect articles ('In university sports center', 'in midel of the university'), incorrect prepositions ('on side of the pool', 'at beging of reception'), and faulty verb tenses and forms ('how it will be looking', 'sport hall will contruct'). Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices and stray commas disrupting sentence boundaries, as seen in 'The diagram depicts, the layout a university's sports centre now'. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the intended meaning and indicate that grammatical control needs considerable strengthening.
