Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining both the present layout and the future redevelopment plans of the university sports centre. It provides a general overview in the introduction, mentioning key changes such as the addition of a sports hall, café, sports shop, dance studios, leisure pool, and changing rooms, alongside the removal of the outdoor courts. However, some parts of the task are developed less fully than others. For instance, specific spatial relationships and precise comparisons between the two plans are occasionally vague or unclear, such as the statement that the 'main theme of sports centre is similar to future proposal also as, 25m pool in the middle after reception'. While the core information is present, extending and clarifying these comparative details would elevate the task response to a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, successfully guiding the reader from an introductory overview into body paragraphs detailing specific spatial features and proposed modifications. Paragraphing is attempted to structure the information logically. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always clear. For example, transitional phrases feel abrupt, and pronouns or cohesive devices linking the present layout to the future plans lack smooth integration, as seen in phrases like 'Outdoor courts is demolished in both and construct sports hall and dance studio in east side'. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive links would enhance the logical flow across the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'redevelopment', 'demolishing', 'expanding', 'leisure pool', and 'reception'. There are, nevertheless, several noticeable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response. Examples include 'centere' instead of centre, 'poll' instead of pool, 'gys' instead of gym, and 'assess' instead of access. Additionally, phrases like 'construct sports hall' lack correct morphological forms and collocation control. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision that prevents the lexical score from rising further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting to describe spatial changes across two different timelines. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these issues include 'the plan of a sports centere of today's and future proposal', 'Outdoor courts is demolished', and 'which can be access only through left corner changing room'. Punctuation is also erratic in places, with missing commas and awkward clause boundaries. While the meaning remains generally understandable, the frequency and nature of these structural inaccuracies keep the grammatical score at this level.
