Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by addressing the layout of the university sports centre both now and in the future. It presents a clear overview stating that several changes will take place and the facility will be extended. The main features are selected and reported appropriately, noting the removal of outdoor courts and the addition of new facilities such as the leisure pool, sports hall, dance studios, and cafe. While the information is generally well-selected, some details could be more fully developed or extended to reach a higher level, as certain areas are described in a somewhat generalised manner without full comparative elaboration on size and precise spatial relationships.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout the text. It makes effective use of paragraphing, dividing the introduction, overview, and specific body details logically. Cohesive devices such as 'Turning to the details', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are employed to guide the reader through the plans, though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel a bit mechanical or formulaic, which prevents the response from achieving a fully seamless flow. Overall, the structural progression is clear, meeting the requirements of a solid performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating specific terms related to building layouts and sports facilities, such as 'leisure pool', 'dance studio', 'reception', and 'sports hall'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is accompanied by occasional word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'Oudoors courts' and 'on its place' instead of 'in its place'. However, these lexical slips do not impede communication and the intended meaning remains clear throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over future passive structures like 'will be constructed' and 'will be extended'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('adding changing room', 'on the both sides') and awkward prepositions, but these errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication. The writer maintains consistent control over basic sentence construction, showing a satisfactory level of grammatical accuracy for this level.
