Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response makes an attempt to describe the two maps of the university sports centre, but the information is presented in a very limited and repetitive way. While the writer mentions some features of the present layout, such as the reception in the south, the changing room in the west, and the outdoor courts, the overview of the future changes is poorly organised and difficult to follow. Rather than selecting and reporting the main features methodically, the text relies on a continuous string of directional phrases like 'in North Left side' and 'in Right side'. The summary of the changes lacks clear comparison between the two plans, resulting in a partial and underdeveloped response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The entire text consists of a single, long, run-on paragraph with no clear division between the introduction, the description of the present layout, and the future plans. There is a lack of logical progression, and the transitions between different parts of the map are confusing and repetitive, relying heavily on consecutive uses of 'and' and conversational phrases such as 'Here! Here is a chart that given below'. Cohesive devices are used inadequately and mechanically, making it very difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships of the sports centre.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on the language provided in the prompt and visual transcription, such as 'sport centre', 'reception', 'changing room', and 'outdoor court'. There are numerous word choice and word formation errors, including 'entrence' for entrance, 'Seeting' for seating, 'univerity' for university, and 'sport hall' instead of sports hall. These lexical limitations and spelling errors restrict the response, although common vocabulary is mostly recognisable. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary related to architectural changes and spatial descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting almost entirely of poorly constructed, run-on simple sentences linked by conjunctions. There is a complete lack of effective complex sentence forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout, including severe issues with prepositions ('in North Left side', 'in South a Reception'), missing articles ('in South', 'in West'), and confused verb tenses and clause structures (e.g., 'after redevelopment how that look like here a present i explain that a chart'). These frequent errors strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning of the spatial descriptions.
