Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the present and future layouts of the university sports centre, and makes some relevant comparisons, such as noting that the pool dimensions and the gym location will remain unchanged. However, some ideas are under-developed or vague, such as stating that courts will be converted into 'other services' without specifying the exact new additions like the leisure pool, sports shop, or café in the overview sentence. The main features are identified, but the overview could be more fully developed to capture the full scope of the redevelopment to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction with an overview, a description of the current layout, and a description of the future plans. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In the upcoming time'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly repetitive transitions and occasional awkward phrasing between sentences. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but to move fully into the next band, the logical progression and flow of cohesive links need to be smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with simple terms like 'reception', 'gym', and 'changing room' utilized appropriately. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'redevelopment', 'dimensions', and 'unchanged', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable word-choice and word-form errors, including 'futurew plans', 'eastren side', and 'size of place will increase'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited and repetitive range of lexical items that restrict the score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. There are notable issues with verb tenses and forms, such as 'pool dimensions will remained same', 'two changing rooms will introduced', and 'courts will converted', showing a lack of passive voice control and auxiliary verb usage. Articles and prepositions are also misused in places, such as 'at centre' and 'in eastren side'. These frequent errors in grammar and morphology mean the structures are not yet controlled enough for a higher band.
