Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement, falling 12 words short of the 150-word threshold (excluding 16 copied words from the prompt). The report minimally responds to the task by attempting to outline some changes between the present and future sports centre layouts. However, the overview is extremely limited and lacks a clear overall summary of the main trends. The student lists isolated details—such as 'a new sports shop at the right side' and '2 Dance studios on the upper left'—without effectively organising or fully reporting the key comparative features of the redevelopment. To improve, the writer needs to ensure the word count requirement is fully met and provide a well-structured overview outlining the primary transformations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Information and ideas are not arranged in a clear, coherent progression. The text is divided into haphazardly constructed segments rather than a logical sequence of paragraphs typical of an Academic Task 1 response. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward, such as 'Firstly, Lets take a notes on what new things are going to be added', which disrupts the flow of reading. Referencing is also confusing at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships described on the map. Achieving a higher band would require a logical grouping of information, standard paragraphing (such as an introduction with an overview followed by body paragraphs), and a more appropriate range of cohesive links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'new things', 'big', and 'room'. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors that strain understanding, such as 'oppsite' instead of opposite, 'attacts' instead of attracts, and 'a interesting thing'. While the student attempts to name specific features from the diagram ('Leisure Pool', 'sports shop', 'Dance studios'), the overall lexical control remains limited. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of precise descriptive verbs and nouns relating to spatial change, and ensure greater accuracy in spelling and word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting largely of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and articles, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The pools remains same' and missing articles such as 'at right a bit difference'. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic, exemplified by 'Lets' and starting sentences without proper capitalization in places. To move up to a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors, and pay closer attention to articles and prepositions.
